Welcome to Rietfontein

Rietfontein is located in the Prince Albert district, Western Cape, South Africa and is the closest dedicated plains game bow hunting facility to Cape Town. The Rietfontein game farm is approximately 16 000 ha in extent and lies in a wide drainage valley of the Groot River and its tributaries. The undulating topography of the drainage valley and the +-80km of riverine bush make the farm imminently suitable to the hunter on foot and the bow hunter in particular. The hunter can always find high ground to observe the game and to plan a stalk.

There are seventeen species available for hunting. The farm is stocked with game only, except for a few hundred Damara sheep on one section of the farm which are kept for mutton and fat addition to sausage, mince and hamburger patties.

The owners have tried to recreate the feel of the traditional Karoo farm homestead rather than the ‘thatched roof bush lodge’ architecture which most clients will be familiar with. There are two restored traditional Karoo homesteads, each with fireplaces and AGA anthracite stoves. Both houses are fully equipped with bedding and kitchen ware. Each homestead has a traditional Karoo garden with lawns, roses, pomegranets, fruit trees, palms and olives as prominent features.
